ACC Daily Fever: Almost Competitive Conference?

Posted: Sep 14, 2009

ACC Daily Fever is the top ACC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

The Week 1 storyline for the ACC was tough defeats and narrow escapes against supposedly ‘inferior’ opponents. It was more of the same in Week 2, as two upper echelon ACC teams, North Carolina and Florida State, had to overcome late fourth-quarter deficits to barely win.

UNC scraped by UConn 12-10 on a safety with less than two minutes to go. The Tar Heels struggled on offense all day before scoring ten points in the final stanza, and then watching their defense save the day.

It was even worse for FSU, who trailed most of the game against FCS opponent Jacksonville State. The ‘Noles had to score two touchdowns in the last minute to avoid what would probably be the worst loss of the Bowden era.

Even with the victories, ACC teams are doing nothing to show that they are even close to the level of the SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10.
