ACC Daily Fever: Is Miami's Defense Ready For Prime Time?

Posted: Sep 16, 2009

ACC Daily Fever is the top ACC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

A year ago, Miami simply not ready for Georgia Tech’s running attack.

The Jackets totaled 472 yards on the ground on the way to a 41-23 victory. Jonathan Dwyer ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone as the ‘Canes saw their shot at a Coastal Division title disappear in Atlanta.

Miami is determined to not let that happen again as they prepare to host Tech before a national television audience Thursday night.

They have had ten days to get ready, and new defensive coordinator John Lovett has been working feverishly with his defense on “assignment football”. One positive for the ‘Canes is that Lovett was on the North Carolina staff a year ago when the Tar Heels held Tech to seven points.

Anything close to that type of result will have Miami fans thrilled on Thursday, but the season opener against FSU showed that Miami's young offense might be ahead of their young defense.

Even though it is early in the season, this game will certainly give one of these teams the inside track as the ACC's best team.
