ACC Daily Fever: Miami-OU History Reminds Hurricanes Of Past Glory

Posted: Oct 02, 2009

Most of the attention for Saturday night’s Miami-Oklahoma matchup has been on the quarterbacks. Sam Bradford will not play for the Sooners, and Jacory Harris will try to bounce back from last week’s tough outing against Virginia Tech.

One interesting aspect for longtime Canes fans is that this series has quite the tradition from the ‘80s. This passage sums it up well:

The series once was about Brian Bosworth and Vinny Testaverde, Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson, Oklahoma's fumblerooski and Miami's mascot setting a miniature Sooner Schooner on fire. It decided at least two national titles, plus had both bravado and vitriol.

That history doesn’t mean much to the current team, but it’s fun for the fan base to remember those classic games.

For the current squad, they are ready to move on from a painful blowout in Blacksburg and show they are a team that is close to returning “The U” to a national power. A victory over Oklahoma would go a long way in accomplishing that goal.

Like we advised FSU, Miami can't get caught looking ahead like they may have done versus Virginia Tech.  Oklahoma should just be seen as the next game on their schedule - another step toward long term legitimacy that Miami used to always have.
