SPF Daily Rating: Saints Look Consistent, Perhaps Elite At 4-0

 
It's early, but the 2009 New Orleans Saints look like a very, very good team. 

No one has ever questioned this team's offense, but the Saints defense has been the surprise in 2009.  They showed how much they've improved after beating the previously undefeated Jets.

The most impressive thing was the way the Saints defense made the Jets rookie QB, Mark Sanchez, actually look like a rookie.  Sanchez made critical turnovers at bad times - exactly what a veteran team should make a rookie QB do.

After the Saints magical post-Katrina playoff run, it seemed like they could never find the consistency to ever return to that height.  The Saints are one of the NFL's only teams who have never been to a Super Bowl.  (The others are the Detroit Lions, the expansion Cleveland Browns, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Houston Texans)

Their improved defense has given them something new to rely upon as they attempt to perhaps finally make it all the way to the promised land.
