SEC Daily Fever: "Cocktail Party" Remains A Great Southern tradition

It's more than just a football game. Whether it's golf tournaments, concerts, or just a long weekend with friends, the Georgia-Florida game has become a can't miss event for both fan bases and for Jacksonville. It's an event that has seen the same people renting the same condo in Jekyll Island for 25 straight years. It's the pageantry of seeing a sold-out stadium split 50-50 with each school's colors. As far as the game, It's stories about Lindsay Scott's game-winning touchdown for Georgia in 1980, Steve Spurrier irritating Dawg fans in the '90s, and UGA stomping in the end zone two years ago.

The contract for the city of Jacksonville and both schools was recently extended through 2016, and we hope this great tradition continues forever. It's a special weekend each year which is great for the area and for SEC football.

At the Florida-Georgia Classic golf outing, the weekend was summed up best by this fan's quote:

"I'd miss this like I'd miss Christmas if I didn't play," said Art Finley of Braselton, Ga., who is playing in the tournament for the 28th time. "This is a lot more than golf. This is a reunion of old friends, every year."
