ACC Daily Fever: Bowden Wins Career Finale in the Gator Bowl

It was just supposed to go this way.

Florida State overcame a halftime deficit with a convincing second-half performance to win Bobby Bowden’s last game in front of a very excited FSU fan base. The Gator Bowl felt like must-win situation for the Seminoles, and they rallied with a 33-21 win over West Virginia to end a tumultuous season on a positive note.

The pregame in Jacksonville turned into a very emotional scene with so many ex-Seminoles on hand to see Bowden’s last game. And when the long time coach put the traditional FSU burning spear into the turf, you could feel the excitement all over the stadium.

It was a fitting end to an amazing career for Bowden that included two National Championships and 12 ACC Titles. His streak of leading the Noles to at least a Top 5 finish in 14 straight seasons may never be seen again in the college game.

Florida State will now turn to Jimbo Fisher to lead the program that Bowden built. Things seem to be moving in the right direction for FSU, and Fisher is already off to a great start in recruiting for the future. Look for the Seminoles to be back as a big time player on the national scene very quickly, and that will help the ACC in their quest to be among the top leagues in the country.
