Legendary Miami Studio 50 Years Later
12/30/07

Jazz fanatic Mack Emerman started the Miami, Florida, Criteria Studio 50 years ago. The studio was once used for the Jackie Gleason show. Over 300 gold and platnum records have been recorded at Criteria. In the late 60s Jerry Wexler moved to Miami. Wexler recruited Tom Dowd to assist him in recording Florida. Artists such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Derek & The Dominos, The Allman Brothers Band, The Dixie Flyers, Bob Marley, The Eagles, Peter Tosh, Brook Benton, R.E.M and a long list of others have recorded chart-toppers at Criteria. A plethora of contemporary darlings have recorded at Criteria for the pure sonic mojo and success of past accomplishments.

This Miami-Herald article highlights the city's local recording landmark.
