SPF Daily Rating: Blank Talks About A New Stadium In Atlanta For Falcons

Posted: Oct 08, 2009

Amidst a serious economic downturn, Falcons owner Arthur Blank has again begun engaging in public discussion about a new stadium to replace the Georgia Dome.  The fact that Blank is willing to discuss a new stadium publicly says a lot about the progress that the Falcons have made in the last two years.

It's hard to believe that it was only two seasons ago when the Falcons were in disarray following the Michael Vick arrest which then led to Bobby Petrino leaving the Falcons in the middle of the season to go to Arkansas.  Since then, the Falcons have purged everyone's memories by finding a new front office, a new coach, and a new QB in Matt Ryan who led them to the playoffs in 2008 and has them at 2-1 this season.

Blank deserves credit for making it clear that the team will participate in the funding of the new stadium.  He genuinely seems to want the Falcons and the city of Atlanta to have a top flight team and stadium for the best possible football experience.

Considering the importance of both Chick Fil-a SEC vs ACC games, both the early season game and bowl game, and the arrival of the College Football Hall of Fame, Atlanta is quickly becoming the football capital of the South.  This new stadium would not only benefit Blank and his Falcons, but it would potentially benefit the entire football-loving region.
