As we predicted, it has been a pretty dire year for SPF teams. Even one of our playoff locks, the Tennessee Titans, is surprisingly winless and going nowhere fast.
The best news amongst our SPF teams comes from the Saints who made an off season commitment to defense both in the draft and in hiring defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. The Saints improved defense has them undefeated and looking strong. Coming out of their bye week, the team has a big home game against the 5-0 NY Giants coming up on Sunday.
The Saints are doing more than winning on the field. They've become a Gulf Coast sensation. Drew Brees jerseys are outselling hometown boy Brett Favre 3-1 in southern Mississippi.
As we've always tried to point out, the NFL needs to learn how to market like a college team. Everything in the Swampland Footprint is regional. The Saints now have overcome their small market made smaller by Katrina in the way that they've build this team.
It's nice to see a bright spot for SPF in a season when there are fewer of those than initially expected.
